ORCA President: Terry Argast
I am a retired psychologist, and have been sailing since the 1980’s. My first time on the tiller was a 20 minute lesson (for $1.00!) in Mission Bay, San Diego in a 14’ unsinkable sloop. That’s when I say the beach cats whizzing by me and I said to my self, “I’ve got to get one of those!” My first two multihull were NACRA 5.2 catamarans. I had been a member of the Aventura Sailing Association for many years which enabled me to charter monohulls out of Dana Point. I have bare boated monohulls and big cats in the BVI, French Polynesia and most recently in Greece. I got an F-24 (Hooroo) in 2013 and then an F-28 CC (Trident) in 2015. She is in mast-up storage in Dana Point.
I try to race every week in informal pursuit races in Dana Point (when there is enough wind) and as many trophy races from Santa Barbara to San Diego as I can. My favorite races are the Catalina Series, sponsored by Long Beach Yacht Club. There is usually decent wind and an opportunity to reach and use the Code Zero and compete with some fellow ORCA boats.
